The Future of Government-Issued Mobile Identities
For over a year, HID Global has been laying out the future of secure identities in the form of mobile IDs. I’m happy to say that future is now very close to becoming today’s reality. Recently, I had the privilege of participating in a webinar hosted by Mark Lockie, the publishing director of Security Document World. This panel was comprised of secure identity experts from industry, government, and regulatory bodies. Together, we discussed critical technological advancements that could support the secure deployment of mobile IDs, protecting citizen privacy and safety without compromising convenience; why government agencies are considering implementing these technologies; and the standards being established to ensure that governments, citizens and issuing/authenticating parties alike are protected in the process. In recent blogs we’ve discussed the importance of balancing privacy concerns with protection and security. During this webinar you will learn exactly what is being done to ensure this balance – and that it is adhered to not just by HID, but globally as countries consider how to handle credentials on a smartphone. Mobile IDs could open the door to all sorts of value-added services and conveniences, such as:
- Remote application and registration of citizens
- Secure access to government-issued documents or services, such as banking or healthcare
- Remote verification and authentication of a citizen’s credential both offline and online
I encourage you to listen to the webinar to learn more. If you have additional questions, feel free to contact me directly. I will close here with this simple call to “Keep calm and embrace mobile ID!”
